About Kael Studio
Where a space becomes
a story
A design practice rooted in Kuala Lumpur, built on honest relationships with clients and spaces alike.

Eight years of
considered design
Kael Studio was founded in 2017 in the heart of Taman Tun Dr Ismail. What started as a two-person studio advising homeowners on spatial arrangement has grown steadily into a full-service interior design practice — though our approach has never changed. We work with a small number of projects each year, not by limitation but by preference.
The name comes from a Scandinavian word for something hand-made, carefully constructed. That spirit permeates everything we do. We don't have a signature aesthetic that gets applied to each client; we have a commitment to listening carefully enough that the right aesthetic reveals itself over time.
Most of our clients are homeowners in the Klang Valley who want their spaces to feel intentional without feeling stiff. Many are returning clients or come through referrals — which we consider the most meaningful measure of a project's success.
Our Mission
To create interior spaces that serve their occupants honestly — spaces that are beautiful because they work well, and personal because they were designed for specific people, not for a trend cycle.
The People Behind It
Our Team
A small, focused group of designers, a project coordinator, and a trusted network of craftspeople and contractors.
Kamelia Azhari
Founding Principal Designer
Trained at UITM Shah Alam with over 12 years of practice, Kamelia leads concept development and client relationships. Her approach is measured, detail-attentive, and always grounded in how people actually use a space.
Rashdan Hamid
Senior Interior Designer
Rashdan handles layout planning, 3D rendering, and material specification. He has a background in architecture and brings rigour to the spatial logic of each project, balancing aesthetics with practicality.
Siew Lin
Project Coordinator
Siew Lin manages the day-to-day flow of renovation oversight projects — coordinating contractors, tracking timelines, and keeping clients informed. Her calm presence during the construction phase is something clients consistently appreciate.
How We Work
Our Standards
The principles that guide our practice from first conversation to final walk-through.
Honest Communication
We tell clients what is possible within their budget and timeline, not what they want to hear. Realistic expectations, met or exceeded, build better projects and better relationships.
Privacy & Discretion
We do not share client project photos without written consent. Your home is your private space, and our involvement in its transformation is held in confidence.
Material Integrity
We recommend materials we would use in our own homes — ones suited to Malaysia's climate, built to last, and sourced from suppliers we have verified over years of working relationships.
Scope Clarity
Every project is documented in a clear proposal before work begins. Any changes to scope are agreed upon in writing before they affect timelines or costs. No surprises.
Technical Accuracy
Drawings and measurements are verified before passing to contractors. We work to reduce on-site errors through careful documentation, which saves time and cost during renovation.
Responsible Sourcing
Where possible, we recommend locally produced furniture, low-VOC finishes, and materials that are appropriate for tropical conditions — both for environmental and practical reasons.
Our Practice
Interior design in Kuala Lumpur, built on craft
Kael Studio occupies a particular niche in the KL interior design landscape — we are not a large firm with a production line of projects, nor are we generalists who take any brief that comes along. Our work sits at the intersection of spatial intelligence and personal sensitivity. We take on residential and boutique commercial projects where the client genuinely wants to be involved and values the process, not just the outcome.
Our design vocabulary draws from traditional Malaysian craft — woven textiles, layered natural materials, the interplay of shade and light in tropical architecture — and interprets these through a contemporary lens. The result is rarely dramatic, but it tends to age well and feel deeply appropriate to its context.
We are members of the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) and hold relevant professional standing. Our contractors are pre-qualified, our material suppliers are vetted, and our documentation practices meet industry standards. These are not marketing points — they are the basic requirements of a practice that takes its responsibilities seriously.
